Cows Are Bad

Yesterday I had called the doctor to follow up about Matthew having blood in his stool over the weekend. He only had one diaper that had alot of blood in it however he has had some speckled in his diapers since then, but it was better. Our doctor wanted to see him in the office so I took Matthew in yesterday afternoon.

I got lucky when I was waiting for the doctor to come into the room that Matthew made a dirty diaper so then the doctor got to see what was going on. (For all parents out there...did you ever think you would be so obsessed with bodliy functions before you had kids?...yea, me neither). The doctor originally thought that it was a food allergy to milk however while he was examining Matthew he thought he might have a tear in his rectal area. Both of these are common things and the doctor was never worried about anything.

Matthew was a trooper as he got his first rectal exam. It was kind of humourous because Matthew let the doctor have it during the exam. Let me just say that our doctor doesn't have small hands so I was a little concerned for my little guy. When our doctor first started his exam, Matthew looked over at me kind of confused like "Mom, is this really happening and what is that sensation I'm feeling?"  Then you just watched in slow motion as the wrinkle came in the forehead, the face got red, and then the lip curl and it came.....WWWWAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
He then proceeded after the doctor was done to pee on him, the doctors response was "Wow, you're bladder was really full."

I will say that it is amazing to be the comforter and protector of your child. When they were done with his exam I picked him up and he just snuggled up to me and slowed his crying. That's a pretty good feeling.

So, the results were, the doctor wasn't sure if he actually had a tear or not. He saw some healing tissue but thought it may have had a tear. So his conclusion was if the blood goes away in the next 3-4 days then it was a tear, if it continues then it is a milk allergy.

He has put me on a modified no-dairy diet. He said he didn't want me to be really anal about no-dairy because he felt it was more a tear, but he couldn't be sure. Did you know that there is dairy in everything?!!? Milk, cheese, chocolate, and many other things. It will be worth it to help out our little guy. I had an allergy to millk as a baby as well, so it could be this. Hopefully in the next few days we will have some direction.

Matthew is not uncomfortable and not in any pain, so we're not too concerned, it would just be easier if this did turn out to be a tear. Will keep you posted...but as for now, you'll find me in the whole foods, gluten and dairy free aisle in the grocery store.

Here is some pictures of our little guy. He was just smiling and laughing this morning when David left for work. He is a cutie.
