Big Prayers for Matthew

Every night, whoever puts Matthew to bed, says prayers with him. This is always a sweet time for me as I hold him and ask God's blessing and protection for him. I've always just been vague in my prayers...help him sleep well, gratefulness for a fun day and for just having Matthew around, prayers for grace and rest for all of us.

I started reading this book "Praying Big for Your Child" and there were some questions in there that have really got me thinking. They got me excited about thinking about Matthew's future and all the things he will learn and go through. Ultimately, David and I pray that life brings him purpose and love and that he knows God has a plan for him.

  • What do I hope for Matthew?
  • In what ways is he, or could be, weak and subject to temptation?
  • What particular gifts adn skills has God given him?
  • What unique physical, emotional or mental challenges do he face?
  • What types of relational and emotional issues or addivtive tendencies has he inherited from me, David or extended family that I want God to heal?
  • If I could snap my fingers and guarantee blessing and success in just one area of Matthew's life, waht would it be?
  • What am I most passionate about for Matthew and what are the promises for these in the Bible?
I've been carrying these around in a notebook in my purse so when I think of something I can write that specific thing down. I'm sure as we dream and think through these questions I'll be sharing the specifics.
