Ahhh...The Smells of Spring
Yesterday my original plan after church was to go to lunch and take a nap. However, when we came out of lunch the warm breeze and sunshine hit me and sparked a level of energy that must have been hidden way deep down. Sunshine and warm weather has an effect on me like none other and oh, how I love a sunny day.
My plans changed to taking a long bike ride and getting some exercise and enjoying the weather. As I was riding I was able to observe some things that I never took the time to think that I enjoy about spring...the smells.
1) Anyone grilling...anything!! David and I are landscaping our front yard and while we were working last night someone was grilling something absolutely delicious smelling. As fellow grillers, I immediately began salivating and wondering what they were cooking.
2) The flowers. Though my allergies and nose would disagree, the flowers and plants put off amazing fragrances that only come about when they are in full bloom. We have roses at home and I literally "stop and smell them" regularly because they smell so good. While I was riding yesterday, in several places, there were distinct smells of flowers. It's like natural air freshener.
3) Freshly Mowed Grass. Again, another one the allergies don't like. But you have to admit you know its springtime when you hear the roar of a mower and smell the fresh cut grass.
4) Before a Storm. Have you ever gone outside when its about to storm and said "It smells like rain."? Well, we do and as april showers have come and continue, I hope they bring about may flowers.
As I'm out and about in the forecasted beautiful days ahead (and you can bank on me being outside alot) I'm hoping to encounter other "senses" of spring and enjoy the days ahead.
