6 Month Doctor Visit

Yesterday was Matthew's 6 month well baby check up. We got a great report and were very encouraged in Matthew's development and growth.
Some highlights:

- He weighs 17.5lbs 5oz and is 26.5 inches long. All of his measurements are in the 50% percentile. However, the doctor kept looking him and saying "He sure looks alot longer than that." He doesn't really rely on the length measurement right now since it is just a matter of how far you stretch them on the measurement board.

- Our doctor was very encouraging of me and of continuing to breastfeed Matthew in the midst of his food allergies. I reached my initial goal of 6 months of breastfeeding and we have decided to continue to breastfeed Matthew for a year. The main reason being his allergies and with breastfeeding we can introduce the foods he's allergic to and see how he responds. It really is a joy to be able to provide that for him and I'm proud that I have stuck with it because it is tough and there have been many days I've wanted to quit. But its what works for each individual woman.

- Matthew has started on meats and had his first taste of chicken last night. We'll keep trying out all the meats and see how Matthew likes his protein. We're having beef and potatoes (sweet potatoes) tonight!!! Yum!!

- We got some tips about sunscreen, since Matthew will be an outdoor baby. We got other tips about hsi teeth.

Overall, Matthew is doing wonderfully. Our doctor said that he was very pleased and said he actually uses David and me as examples with his other parents of laid back parents. That felt really good for him to say as he is a professional that sees ALOT of parents. We really enjoy our time with Matthew and find ourselves having alot of fun with him and being a family.

On another note, David and I have never really been involved with doctors except for a yearly visit with our family doctors. However, when we were pregnant and since having Matthew we have come to respect our OB and Pediatrician. I told David last night that I felt like those two people should be invited to our Christmas dinner because I feel like they are family. I actually found myself excited to see our doctor yesterday, David said he felt the same way. It's good to have good people that care for our children.
